Des fois FW, tu me décourages.
So Special-K, Taking lessons is about safety and understanding wind, wind window and the wind unbelievable power. There are the Does and Don't espaciallly near or on a beach, how to self rescue, body drags (efficient one), make raft when in too much sh..., ways of re-lauching your kite when it's down in the middle of alake, far from the beach and that you don't touch the bottom, and the good thing to learn on others equipments cause you gonna crash and crash and crash it again !

but FW hasn't, he only bought the wrong harness, the wrong board...but it's always someone else fault...
You may not need 30-40 hours of courses, but 2 sessions of 2-3 hrs with a knowledgeable trainer would help you learning much faster and in a much safer way.
A short anecdote: a fellow I know which took a great 1.5 hrs training bought a brand new kite and aimed for the frozen patch near his place, huge surface. He had a 10m, wind that day was about 35 knots, he sefl launch and Got launched too TAKE OFF like they say at NASA! He flew 20 feet perhaps more in the air, then went down as fast as he went up ! Face down - almost he landed on his chest! then got dragged for 2-300 feet until his kite crashed into a tree. Lucky him he only had a few cracked ribs and no one in his way to tree!! He later went home, got his chain saw, went back, cut the tree and got his kite back, slighty damaged.
Before the incident, I had an e-mail with him durign which he told me he was starting to kite, he asked him about his knowledge of the wind, he had taken basic lessons, he told me he knew very well wind theory as he flew small kites (acrobatic ones) for years...
Weapon of mass destruction, right on FW, one life or one stupid injury to your sefl or others (Hey FW, remember the fellow beginner at l'ile au coude.. he is injured for life) so, this is for me a mass destruction, being sorry won't fix anything.
Now, make your own decisions.
I'm out.
