Hi Chuffer and welcome on the furum!

Are you looking into new equipment or used?

What is your starting budget?

Do you want to begin on snow or on water.

For snow kite, you need:
- ski or snowboard equipment (I suggest to begin with ski, it's easier)
- Seat harness
- At least 1 kite. I suggest 12m to 14M. It is the most frequent Quebec's wind right size.

For Kite boarding(on the water) you need:
- To begin, 1 low wind kite Board
- Seat harness ( it is easier to begin with a seat type)
- At least 1 kite. I suggest 12m to 14M. It is the most frequent Quebec's wind right size.
- 5mm Wetsuit or drysuit to extend your season.

As the sport of kiting can be dangerous, I also suggest you to take lessons as I did and every beginner should do. In the beginner lessons, you will learn all the safety procedure and you will also be able to ride by yourself quicker.

At 250lbs, You will probably end up with 17m-12m-9m but if looking for only 1 kite, go for 14m or 15m.

In case you decide on a 12m, here is a really powerfull 12m, top shape.

NOPE- if he rides near MTL, it will be 17 or bigger -14-11 (10) with a large board, a very large one 145 X45 with little rocker, bigger if you can find one but it is a minimum. I am 215 and my go to kite is the 13.5 and I spend a lot of time on my 19 and I have a Light wind board. I've tried many 12m and they don't cut it what ever the board when you are above 200 pds, may be on the ocean, may be near Qc city but not near montreal.
